Luckenbach, Texas

April 23, 2006

This is one my favourite Waylon song and was one of his biggest hits. However, Waylon loathed the song , Why? I don't know.

Luckenbach, Texas

Moman/Emmons

Well the only two things in life that make it worth livin’,

Is guitars tuned good and firm feelin’ wimmin’,

I don’t need my name in the marquee lights,

I got my song and I got you with me tonight,

Maybe its time we got back,

To the basics of Love,

Lets go to Luckenbach, Texas,

With Waylon and Willie and the boys,

This successful lif were livin’ got us,

Feudin’ like the Hatfeilds and McCoys,

Between Hank William’s pain songs,

Newberry’s train song ,

And Blue eyes cryin’ in the rain,

Out in Luckenbach, Texas,

Ain’t nobody feelin no pain,

So baby lets sell your diamond ring,

Buy some boots and faded jeans,

And go away,

This coat and tie is chockin’ me,

And in your high society,

You cry all day,

We’ve so been so busy keeping’ up with the Jones’s,

Four car garage and were still building on,

Maybe its time we got back,

To the basics in love,

Wrong

April 18, 2006

Wrong

It was a picture perfect wedding,

We had the whole world at our feet,

Everyone thought we were headin’,

Down a lovers easy street,

We’d have a house out in the country,

A picket fence the whole nine yards,

They said our love would last forever,

It was written in the stars,

Wrong,

I should have known it all along,

When the future looks too bright,

Can’t be anything but right,

Wrong,

I was all but devastated,

When she told me we were through,

But in a while the heartache faded,

And I found somebody new,

I swore that this time would be different,

I had it all figured out,

I wouldn’t make the same mistake,

I knew what love was all about,

Wrong,

I should have known it all along,

When the future looks too bright,

Can’t be anything but right,

Wrong,

Everything was going strong,

The sky was always blue,

I thought my dreams had all come true,

Wrong,

Wrong,

The Eagle Lyrics

April 3, 2006

THE EAGLE

(Cochran/Lane/Vickerey)

Lord knows I am peaceful,

When I’m left alone,

I’ve always been an eagle,

Been a while since I have flown,

My claws are sharp as ever,

So’s my eagle eye,

Something’s gone to go to ground,

When the eagle flies,

Lately I’ve heard rumours,

the eagle maybe lame,

Just because I been idle,

Don’t mean that I’m tame,

You’ve jeopardised my freedom,

My natural place to roost,

I can fly when I have to,

If they turn the eagle loose,

So lay all your doubts aside,

When you go to bed tonight,

My feathers are all ruffled now,

I’m ready for a fight,

Just because I took a while to fly,

Don’t mean I don’t care,

When you feel the shadow crossing,

The eagle’s in the air

So lay all your doubts aside,

When you go to bed tonight,

My feathers are all ruffled now,

I’m ready for a fight,

Just because I took a while to fly,

Don’t mean I don’t care,

When you feel the shadow crossing,

The eagle’s in the air,

When you feel the shadow crossing,

The eagle’s in the air.

The Good Ol Boys

March 26, 2006

Waylon was the Balladeer/Narrator of 'The Dukes Of Hazzard' which ran from 1979 to 1985. Waylon also wrote the theme tune for the show which became one of the most popular TV Theme songs

'The Good Ol Boys'

By Waylon Jennings

Just two good ol’ boys,

Never meaanin’ no harm,

Beats all you never saw ,

Been in trouble with the law,

Since the day they was born,

Straightnin’ the curves,

Flattnin’ the hills,

Someday the mountain might get em ,

but the law never will,

Makin’ their way the only way they know how,

That’s just a little bit more than the law will allow,

Just two good ol boys,

Wouldn’t change if they could,

Fightin the system like a two modern day Robin Hoods.

(Alternate verse for the album)

I’m a good ol boy,

You know my mamma loved me,

But she don’t understand,

They keep showing my hands and not my face on TV.

Waylon Lyrics

March 25, 2006

For the next several postings I will be adding the lyrics to some of Waylon's best to the blog: Today it is 'The Dream' – Waylon's last recorded song, a very moving piano ballad, enjoy;

'The Dream'

By Waylon Jennings

I've been a dreamer all of my life,
Believing dreams can come true,
I've lived with the feeling not satisfied,
with only the image of you,

A moment in time,
a place in the sun,
can never be all may seem,
For I've come to know when its all said and done,
a dream is only a dream,

Somewhere somehow I found something more,
than only a sweet state of mind,
fullfilling a need,
and no longer leave,
my heart suspended in time,

I know what I feel,
I know what is real,
I know because I was there,

all I can say I've had it both ways,
and the dream could never compare,
All I can say I've had it both ways,
and the dream could never compare.
